Point-illism
I found a blog the other day with a great name. It’s called Lazy yogi. (That’s a yogi after my own heart.) In it, the write talks about points. The points I’m referring to in this case, of course, have nothing to do with Seurat—though that’s not to say that these points are not in themselves a work of art. These are energy points, or junctures, in the body between which energy, or life force, flows, and they correspond to points on the body and the organs.
Most people are familiar with acupuncture points. Then there are reflexology points. But the Lazy Yogi talks about the lesser-known marma points used in Ayurveda. They’re said to house the three pillars of life, or doshas. Marma points massage is becoming more popular in spas.
The only other points I know about are used in Jin Shin Jyutsu. All of the points in Jin Shin Jyustu are in the hands, which are used as "jumper cables," to make contact with 26 "safety energy locks." These redirect, or unblock the flow of energy along its pathways.
I went to a Jin Shin Jyustu session once and we sat with a group for about an hour during which we were supposed to listen to energy pulses in our wrists and then work with the leader who talked us through the 26-point sequence, which was supposed to reharmonize and restore our energy blocks. Some people fell asleep but it seemed to be okay to do that.
That one session was not life transforming for me, but there Jin Shin Jyustu followers all over the world. The history is interesting. It’s an ancient Japanese practice that was rediscovered by Jiro Murai, a philosopher. He passed on this information to a contemporary woman named Mary Burmeister.
Any other points I’m missing?

Thank you for writing about my blog.
This is very interesting and completly new info for me, about Jin Shin Jyustu. I'll write about this in my blog today. Could you pls explain more your personal experience of this practice in a sort of "How to do and How I do" posts? I use and love the "energetic" theory of Asian religions (philosophy) and it would be very interesting to exchenge our knews and experiences on this way.
Hope we will become blog-friends.
I would like to leave a little more information about Jin Shin Jyutsu, for the record, I am practitioner & Self-Care instructor, who uses this wonderful healing art to treat people, horses, dogs, cats & rabbits, and many other animals as well.
I am a little concerned about the description of your first encounter with Jin Shin Jyutsu, and the perception of points being located in the hands and fingers.
Firstly, Jin Shin Jyutsu uses 26 Safety Energy Locks located at strategic points on both sides of the body, literally from head to big toe. The fingers and toes are also used to harmonize & balance the flow of energy in the body, but they are not considered in themselves to be "points".
Jin Shin Jyutsu is thought to be the innate healing mechanism that is hard-wired into every living body. Thus it is considered to be the grandparent art to all those that have found a way to harness the body's own ability to heal itself, such as acupuncture, shiatsu, bowen therapy, etc.
One can experience Jin Shin Jyutsu by going to a practitioner and receiving a session, which typically begins with the practitioner observing the client's body as it lies (fully clothed) on the table, and listening to the pulses on the clients wrist to gain valuable information as to where the body needs help at that present moment, and where it is likely to need help in near future.
One can also learn to practice the art of Jin Shin Jyutsu Self-Help(or self-care), which does not involve the need to listen to your pulses at the wrist, only to learn the location of the 26 Safety Energy Locks on the body, and some simple patterns or combinations to hold which will bring balance to the body's energy.
The concept in Jin Shin Jyutsu is that your two hands are applied to the body as "jumper cables" between two designated Safety Energy Locks. Using only gentle fingertip pressure, one then listens for a pulse under the fingers of each hand, when the pulses heard under one hand match the pulses heard under the other, in terms of intensity and rhythm, then the energy flow between the two Safety Energy Locks is deemed to be re-established or harmonized.
Jin Shin Jyutsu self-care is a wonderful art to know, because it can be used by anyone, any where, even sitting on a plane, or on a long commute, or in a boring business meeting.... imagine sitting quietly and unobtrusively harmonizing your being, while listening to someone drone on!
If you would like more information about Jin Shin Jyutsu, please feel free to check out my websites at www.healthybalancedbody.com or www.healthyhappyhorse.com. Or, pick up a copy of Alice Burmeister's book, "A Touching of Healing".
Thanks for the followup, Janine. My experience with Jin Shin Jyutsu was a few years ago. It was also not meant to be complete, just a nudge to encourage people to look into it as another source of energy healing. I'm certainly no expert, just a collector, so to speak.
I visited your site,Janine, and found more interesting information about this healing art. (added it to my post too...) You write this art is relative of other similar teachings. What do you think about marma points? What is the difference?
Liudmila,
Your question about how jin shin jyustu's energy locks differ from marma points is an excellent one. How to they differ from chakras, for that matter?
I understood, we have to open the sites and to learn the case. Than we'll tell to everybody we are great teachers of a new Great Teaching with affiliates all over the world. ;)))
If seriously,I've to study this question.
Liudmila,
I think we both want to educate—ourselves and others!
